review of Catrin Welz-stein
I am reviewing the artist Catrin Welz-Stein. Catrin Welz-Stein works on Photoshop combining different images to create fantastical landscapes. The images often has a person as the main theme and the people are generally taken from old paintings. What Catrin wants to do with these images is recreate the emotions and creativity of childhood. It is also to convey emotions and a story to the viewer. I think this is an important value because we all need to remember the happiness and innocence of childhood.
What struck me about the portfolio was that it was made in the style of an interview. Most of it was her art and links to sites where you could buy her art.

Here are some examples of her art. They both have color schemes one that is dark with duller colors the other has bright colors. They both also have an aged look and the brightest part of the picture is around the main subject. The aged look brings a certain fantastical quality. The light around the main subject also does this making the main subject seem like they have an aura. Most of the art has an aura and quite often places odd objects in place of parts of the body, for example branches as hair. The message of serenity is expressed through the soft colors, it is also expressed using the movement in the hair and that she uses mostly things found in nature.
The first image and one other piece are called the wolf. They are a pair of images created for a magazine called Woman Kind. What stood out to me about this piece is the wolf in the picture and how it is both the dress and in front of the woman at the same time. The image is in dark colors that make you think of the nighttime and this makes her seem mysterious. Her hair is also wild and yet she is calm and as you watch her she watches you right back this creates an idea that she is not of this world and is simply watching you the same way you are watching her. I think that the message that this is trying to convey is an otherworldly being isn't wild or savage and can be just as elegant and calm as any human. This meaning is not explicit much like any of her artworks, nothing is explicit. I think that if it wanted to convey the message very explicitly it could do better but if it just wants you to feel an aura that conveys the message than it does a very good job. This design is good for the target audience because it is meant to be for the covers of books on for interesting pictures in magazines and is not meant to be explicit in it's opinion.
I think that the wolf conveys the way that Catrin Welz-Stein conveys messages, it is just as implied as all of her artwork. I fact is hard to tell what exactly the message is, all of her art is like that. The art lets you make your own Ideas about what it is about. I think that this designer has a beautiful style of art that is calming for me. It brings me into the picture and creates fantastical worlds much like writers do in books.

Review of true skin
I am reviewing the short film True Skin. It was produced by Stephan Zlotescu.
The first thing in the film to grab my attention is the eyes that glowed. Technology had a role in this by making it so the main characters eyes glowed.
One of the most impressive scenes was the scene in which Kay opens up his face to reveal machinery and replaces his eyes. In this scene he is standing in front of a mirror and then he presses a button on the side of his head that makes a panel replaces his face open up. He than takes out his eyes and then replaces them with blue blinking eyes. This would need to alter the way that the mechanics in the face look and the way that the eyes move.
One other impressive scene was in the very beginning when it shows a view over the city with all sorts of neon lights and signs. It is very colorful, a trait that is held up throughout the whole of the short film. This scene would would need some sort of digital design to make it appear as though it is that way.
There is seriousness expresses in the film, when there is the clock it expresses urgency, when the screen is red and black it expresses that something bad is happening. Also information about the scene is given to you on the screen in large neon letters, this makes it more serious.
I feel like this is a very good film and they could use the story and Ideas but just work on the quality of the CGI. I think that CGI is very interesting and is a good thing in film. I think it helps the audience become imersed in the film.

Review of Skyrim
I am reviewing a video game called Skyrim.
What made me choose to review this game was because of the way that the dragons seem to be created, as sentient beings. I also chose this because it reminds me of a camp that I have gone to called Adventures in cardboard. Adventures in Cardboard is a camp where you create cardboard weapons and armor. The camp is based in parks, and when you walk through the trails there are people and characters that you can interact with that can give you money and can try to fight you. There is also a history and magic.
In this game they use mainly 3D design. They also use 3D design to create the writing language of the dragons. They also used graphic design to make the landscapes. While, they use sound design to create the language of the dragons when the dragons are speaking in it. This language is also spoken by the character when they create a spell and the words can vary depending on what type of spell that the character uses. The landscapes in the game are also a big part and are a type of graphic design.
In the studio the people that use these different design tracks seem to interact well. They have meetings where they watch the game to see if they find anythings that they want or need to change.
This seems like a very interesting enviorment to be in because all the people are making the story and the world more accurate and believable. A place where you can create a story and different people. I would love to work in a place like that where I can try to make the way that the creatures move more accurate and I can create a story. I love to figure out what things would look like if they were real and how to make them so they can do what they are meant to do. I think that I would fit in a place like this.

Super Bowl Commercial
I watched 84 Lumber Super Bowl commercial-the Entire Journey. I chose to watch it because it was about immigration and how we should welcome more immigrants. Also, this message was conveyed in a touching way that caused me to agree more with the message.
The message that this commercial conveyed was both the US should welcome more immigrants, and you should buy lumber from 84 Lumber. The former message was implied and lightly said. It was implied because throughout the commercial you follow a mother and a girl that are traveling. After traveling for a long time, they reach a wall and the mother starts to cry and the girl gives her mother an American flag made out of fabrics that she found along their journey. Then they find a door and walk through it with smiles on their faces. Also it is somewhat direct because towards the end there is text that says “The will to succeed is always welcome here.” The second message is shown when there are people working with wood and later you see a wooden door. This is also shown when they show the symbol for the lumber company at the end of the video.
The elements of design they used to captured my interest was the variation of places they went and all the colors they see. Also the story of the girl and her mother was very interesting. Other elements that I later noticed was that in the scene with the wall the wall blocks out the sun and when they open the doors the sun shines down on the mother and the child. This subtly makes the wall seem worse and the door better. Another thing was that when the mother and child saw the door the door had high saturation. Also the mother and the child wore colorful clothes while the landscapes were less highly saturated. Also the usage of a mother and a child causes more people to feel sympathetic towards them. Another thing is the music it is soft and calm and at times is faster and makes you think of traveling. When they reach to wall the music also becomes slower and it seems more sad. There is also a rainbow of light that colors the mother while she is walking. The sound of the wind when they see the door and the absence of music make it more suspenseful.
All these components come together to make the video more touching and encourages you to sympathize with the mother and the child. It also makes you think that the lumber company was helping the mother and child that you begin to sympathize with.
